The game apparently renders only 3 compartments at a time already. Easiest way to check this is at the hatch from the control room towards the crew's quarters. As the camera moves down to simulate ducking through that low pass, if you're not all the way through, the electric motor/aft torpedo room is not rendered, there's just black stuff there. Likewise you can turn around and the fore torpedo room is not rendered as you stand in said hatch. It's a trickier angle though due to conning tower structure.
Or is this some graphics bug i'm having ?
