Yeah, I find this annoying and rather immersion killing. I suppose it's to prevent all the crew members magically 'appearing' if you get up top first. But that's what happens if I order a dive and am standing by the hydrophone operator - the watch officer suddenly appears next to me.
On the flip side, when you order a dive the crew are very slow to go inside! I have to be first down the hatch, order the dive and hear the hatch close, then on external view it takes the guys some 10-20 seconds to disappear off the bridge, sometimes not doing so until
after the boat has submerged.
It would make much more sense if they disappeared almost instantly, but
before the hatch closed (why not put a 5 second delay on the hatch auto-closing?), and appeared within 5-10 seconds of surfacing, giving you the chance to be first up top if you happen to be in a hurry.
