yeah, SH5 is the worst offender with this. Dig around enough and you'll find just about everything from the previous two games. I used to think SH4 was bad.
Ok.... so....Wasserbomben! Or as monolinguistic mental midgets like myself call it... "Depth charges in the water!" The lack of this warning, i believe is a legacy issue from SH4. Without going into great detail, the summation is that this was never fixed. So a work around was found by NVDrifter called the "depth charge splash warning".
How this worked was the sound of the depth charge hitting the water was made audible to the player by changing various sound properties in the particles.dsd file for this sound event. The result was you could hear the depth charges hitting the water around you, much like you can hear a DD pass overhead. Not quite as immersive as hearing the soundman, but it works pretty well.
So assuming SH5 uses the particles.dat file, you might be able to recreate this mod. I tried earlier, but either I didn't adjust it right, used the wrong sound event, or SH5 doesn't use the file like the previous two games. I honestly don't know.
