Even in later 1942 when the T3 had been fully implemented some submarines were using T1s (although by then general loadouts favored electric torpedos by about 4:1).
T1s still had many advantages over electric torpedos. They required less maintenance and had a higher top speed of 44 knots (although in practice submarines used the 40kt or 30kt setting). T2s and T3s both operated at 30 knots; T4s at 24. Set to its faster speed of 40kts the T1 still outranged all other torpedos issued during the war.
