Default One of the old chess titans died

Former chess world champion and one of the true luminaries in the tradition of Russian chess, Vassily Smyslov, died early this weekend, age 89. His name leaves an eternal echo in the hall of names. Chess theory owes him much. The art of chess won both beauty and boldness by his visit. His matches stay.

In 1957 and 58 he ruled the game as the 7th world chess champion.
