My main focus as you remember was on Denmark strait battle. The sinking of Bismarck really, what was that - a huge task force overwhelming an immobilized Bismarck, with tired crew that didn't really score any hits. It was pretty much beating up a wreck, and they still didn't sink her, even though they sent torpedoes end and bambarded it with shells.
I tell you another reason I didn't want it too long in the end - because when the germans blew bismarck up so she could finall sink, there were hundreds of people floating in the water (i still have this picture image in my head, many heads). And because of a u-boat sighting, the british had to leave and all those crewman died, bar few dozens who got picked up early enough. I figured showing that would be too a bit too much. I tried to show that basically there was one true battle, and than damaged Bismarck was on the run. It broke away from Eugen, was harassed by bombers, got torpedoed more than once, than got slaughtered by Home Fleet battleships. So it wasn't a great ending or something like that (for germans).
AS you picked up rightly though, it is mostly a historic account I tried to make, even though I couldn't help but to dramatize a couple of places (like the fog and the final hours attack).
