So far I feel like I've got no influence or input at all, I just wander about with nothing to do, no momentary decisions to make. I can't listen for ships for myself, I can't ask what the depth is or order a specific depth to dive to - choosing an icon is not the same as choosing the depth to go to yourself. I get told we are in shallow water, but what I want is to be able to check it moment by moment for myself, when I can see we might be approaching a risky area, to have MY finger on the pulse of what is going on so to speak. There's no compass so I don't know where I am heading or how to work out where other ships are in relation to me. And what happens when you find a target - is that 'point and click' IT?
I hate the ladder thing; faffing about trying to get up or down that smoothly and in one go is annoying. I am not interested in small-talk with the crew... Argh. It is all so simplified and basic, not what I expected. There was so much that was right with previous versions of the game - why change?
I am still getting out of Kiel on my first mission - except I am not sure what that mission is unless its the general instruction to attack British ships - which I could have worked out for myself.
Yes I am having a moan. I am genuinely disappointed. Maybe these things I think are missing are there but hidden and I am in for a nice suprise, but I don't think so. I have read Uncle Neils review, looked at the manual, such as it is, and poked about. If I have missed something, please tell me and cheer me up! However, it is early days, and maybe I will adjust but really, my hopes are pinned on the modders. They can turn this game around. It really makes SH3 shine out for the all-time best of the series. Way to go SH5

I think this pretty much sums it up for me with one exception.
I would not mind 'small talk' with the crew if it wasent repetative and redundant.
I saw a mudcrab the other day....
