To be honest I don't know, most of my flying online these days is with Black Shark. With Black Shark there is usually a good few people online, excluding squads, and with the merging of Lock On and DCS online, I can only see this improving.
However If you are really into your online flying, joining a squad is the way to go. There are lots to choose from.
