Yes, the two periscopes work very differently. The Obs scope cannot be looked through till it's rasied fully.
The Attack scope on the other hand does not require full extension, thats why it's the attack scope, it's designed this way.
At least they have these two scopes right in SH5, unlike SH3 where they had the obs scope where the attack scope's mechanisim should have been in the control room. And at least it's animated right and proper.
I always remain standing there by it and raise it first watching it come up out of the floor, then once it stops then I click on it.
On the attack scope I do wish I could sit at it like in SH3, and look through, or take my head away while sitting.
