From what ive read since i first heard about it, the change meant a change of seasons for their harvesting, just like a gardener changes his patch every few yrs or so to avoid diseases except this 2012 to the mayans is one major change - the big one so to speak. Come 2012 they grow their crop facing east instead of west type of thing. No end of the world.
