You don't fear escorts because you avoid them.

At least tankers don't have high calibre weapons, depth-charges or make 35 knots.

The 1 time I got killed was after attacking a convoy in shallow water. DD picked me up on active, and rammed the CT on his run. Had to surface due to flooding, got wasted on the surface.
