Ok, my crew stays up there and nearly drowns themselves. Why can't I be up their until the very last minute where it will force me down?

Do we really have to have realism to a degree where I have to walk my man down two feet of ladder to dive, only to have the hatch automatically close and no crew to follow me down?

You can't have it all, so why force us to move down the ladder before we initiate the dive. It also adds an unrealistic aspect on top of everything, Captain's didn't have to exit the bridge when a dive order was given. The current form of the game adds precious seconds to a dive because the tanks can not start to be flooded until after the captain has walked down the ladder and entered the sub.
