Ships-R-Us, that sounds right. Anything other than AA off "1x" the problem should be there. It makes no sense for AA 4x to work but AA 8x to not work, for example.
I think Echlot is right, driver-AA might possible if gamma correction is turned off. It's been a while since I worried about this with SH4 but if memory serves it was a conflict between AA and gamma correction.
