Sure, but again... if they can be done quickly, why not? I don't think it's a waste of time, and I think most things are not likely to be seriously affected, let alone "killed" by patches. Just that sometimes it's a pain in the butt to transfer them from one version to another (and believe me, I know this first hand, having had to do a large amount of work helping Beery put together a working version of RUb for SHIII 1.3b after his previous releases were mostly under 1.2). But rarely is the work actually lost.
Again, though, small fixes aren't a bad investment now if they pay off for the players (and modders are players too). They give quick gameplay returns and will probably stay useful in the longer run.
