From watchinig movies and reading books (Tom Clancy)

I have learned that a modern submarine might ping a target to get its range, but the sub would in the same process reveal themselves to others listening in the area.

So I am wondering if both of the echolod mentioned here, would disclose the presence of the submarine to others when used to get the depth under keel value.
