I came to SH3 rather late, merely 10 months ago. One thing I will say is that any mods available had been developed to a point where most if not all bugs were ironed out, some were merged with others and there was plenty of info on how to get my game where it is now. The mods in my sig are only the beginning of a total of 44 mods active on my game.

If I'd have come to SH3 in the beginning, it would have been a much longer road to the game I have now, which in my eyes is perfect. I've not had a chance to get bored yet and I've mentally stopped myself from adding any other mods for fear of screwing up the game that I've created through mod merging.

I'm quite happy to continue with SH3 for a couple of years but I will be avoiding SH4, I didn't like the look or the feel when I saw my friend playing it recently. As for SH5, well when I'm ready to buy that it will probably be selling for under a tenner and any issues with DRM will either be realised as unnecesary or a workaround/patch provided. I'm pretty sure there'll be plenty of mods available in a polished state that will enhance it even further.

I have patience to wait for when something is right, it's the people that don't that drive the software companies to push unfinished work with dumb copy protection methods out into the marketplace, they know they'll make a mint despite any concerns or complaints.

It only took one T1 eel to convince that boat not to float.
