Thing is, google bases its search results on the number of links to a site.
So let's say you're the proud owner of a site selling real prada bags for only $10 (
), you want your site to be on the top of the list if someone types "prada handbags" into the google searchbox. One way to do that is place links to your site all over the web, google thinks your site must be an absolutely great place and places you at the top of the search results.
