this thread elsewhere on the forums, I was just watching the linked video (lots of good sub footage but some serious neo-nazi overtones).
At approximately 0:48 (and possible again at 3:25) is a sub with the same nose as the one in the lower half of Rhodes' photo.
Obviously I will bow to greater knowledge here, but I think the top one is a type IX and the bottom is a type VII.
