Well, I have thought hard about this and although I bought your book, I don't agree with you.
Consider that the subsim market is a very small one and that being such a small market there is not much margin in it. There is little incentive for another developer to produce a rival subsim game set in WWII and even if they do decide to create it, they would have difficulty getting a publisher to pick it up, as they'd look at the market and think it was not worth their while to try to split the small market.
My point, is that if a game lumbers on, without being given the proper care and attention, then it will disuade others from producing a better version, which has had the time spent on it.
'Thunder Below' for example was cancelled by Dreamworks, because U-571 was being produced at Universal and Dreamworks did not want to compete with another WWII submarine film. That was with Spielberg lined up to direct Thunder Below as well! I know which one I would have preferred to see.
I do hope that SH5 is a brilliant game, but if it's not, then I hope it's brilliantly moddable but if it's not, then perhaps it would be best to drag the one eyed, one legged, deaf and dumb abomination out into the garden and hit it over the head with a shovel.
