One more time...
....SH3 with the GWX mod should be looked at as the starting point to move forward. SH3 was modded for a reason, so hopefully they have started from there and enhanced etc but as noted allowed "noobs" to have their fun also.
I, for one, prefer the 'open' world concept as with the current SH3. Adding a 'storyline' concept could be disastrous (i.e. ala Age of Empires III which was terrible compared to the original game, updated graphics notwithstanding).
