Ubisoft wants to tell a story, instead of just dropping players into u-boats and asking them to blow some stuff up. Each mission will be given context, allowing players to not only live the largest naval battles of World War II, but know why they were important. Sink an important ship, and expect the world to change, which is a bit contradictory considering the focus on historical realism.

I guess UBI just doesn't get what we realism nerds around here like about SH3+4
I.e. (at least for me) I don't want to be included in every major event during the time of my virtual career. Even not ordered to join every major event. Because this is a heavy player-centric approach that makes you feel like the game just waits for you to come along and then the action takes place around you.
I assume that many people here just want to dive into the scenario as a whole. And really feeling as being in the role of a u-boat captain means also experiencing times where nothing happens for you. And times where stuff happens but you are somewhere else and don't participate.
And that you and your crew are going your way as best as you can while the world is still turning without you. Let there be major events on the radio for example.
