Technically, our congress can not vote themselves a pay raise. Any pay raise takes place in the next congress.
Unfortunately, because citizens choose (and yes it is their choice) to re-elect their congresshumans at a rate exceeding 90%, for all practical purposes they can vote themselves a pay raise.
