Imagine serving on the real U-666. The conning tower art was a stylized depiction of Lucifer's fall from heaven, and the crewmembers all wore a miniature version of this on their caps. And the boat's code name in the fleet was "U-Satan".
Despite all that, the boat actually had a fairly long career, and made it well into 1944 before being sunk; similar to, or even better than many of the other boats that were lost.
The U.S. Navy also had a 666; the SSN 666. Hawkbill was her name (I think). I always thought if they had the 'nads to actually assign that hull number, the name of the boat should have been the Devilfish... :P
