I know we argue against using Das Boot as any kind of reflection of reality, and rightfully so, but the idea of the bridge watch crew manning the planes and pumps while submerged only makes sense, as those were not manned while on the surface.

And remember, watch rotation applies to all crew members, not just the bridge lookout team.
