Sadly my great-grandfather a month after I was born. My Grandfather didn't mention that much about his time in the Royal Marines either, but he did mention once to my mother about an incident in Malaya during the 'Malayan crisis' where the rebels found out how the commandos used to greet the children of the villages and pick them up and such when they came running out to greet them. So...the little bastards put bombs on the kids, and after a number of men were killed or injured by this, the RMs were ordered to shoot on sight any child that ran out to greet them.
Of course, the children didn't know any better and...well...

This haunted him for the rest of his life.
