Yep, going around at anything higher than 256x TC is just asking for the weather to stick to you like glue. Sometimes this can be a good thing, but if you're not careful you can end up inside a perpetual cyclone...
My own personal workaround is to limit the max TC (Using SH3C) to 256x. It makes for long patrols, but it helps keep down the weather bugs. And besides, you get a miniscule sense of how tedious life must've been for the submarine crews back then. (I'm sure it can't be much more exciting nowadays
