No sir, dad does not have to pay for the lawyer. Get a court appointed one if either party can not afford a lawyer. My sister paid for her own lawyer. There has been no money exchanged for alimony or child support. That comes after the judge makes the ruling. Most lawyer if not all take payment up front.
