Alien
Well, I saw Alien (my favourite film of all time) at a midnight screening at the Vue complex in Edinburgh when it was re-released a few years ago. There were only about 50 or so people in attendance, in particular a group of about a dozen kids aged about 18-20 sitting near the front. For the first 15 minutes they were joking around, generally making a lot of noise and giggling, etc. However, the scenes of the alien derelict, Space Jockey and facehugger cut the noise output close to zero, and when John Hurt bites it there were visible jumps of fear, and stifled screams from a couple of the girls. Even a few of the guys had their hands over their eyes when Harry Dean Stanton goes looking for the cat.

By far the best part was where the Captain, Tom Skerritt, is in the air shafts looking for the creature. I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen the film, but that bit produced the biggest collective scream I have ever heard in a cinema . It was great to see that at least some kids haven't been completely desensitised by crap like Saw, Hostel, etc.
