I tap the scope of my HK417 nervously. Few meters from me,
under the camonet that makes our little camp virtually
invisible from air, Hunter is crouched over the weapons
crate. I can see his lips moving as he mutters to himself,
I move closer, to a hearing distance.
"-Should I take the M110? It's pretty nice.."
"FINALLY!", though to myself.
"-But look at this camo! Desert camo for winter ops?!"
*Sigh* I move away and go lay under a tree.
Moments later, Hunter comes up to me.
"Ready?",
"aye".
With Hunter leading, we start moving to west, towards
our target; some dip**** general needs to be taken out. We
dont get far from our camp before starting to see glimpses
of baddies moving in a forest infront of us. The trees
block our line of sight and we keep losing them, but atleast
we know right about where they are. We move forward.
"-Patrol, straight ahead"
I hit the dirt next to Hunter and get the patrol into my sights.
"-You take the two on the right, I take the two on left?" Hunter
whispers,
"Rgr".
The ground sloped abit and Hunter lost his visual on the lead
guy when he went prone. I had clear line on my targets and shot
them without problems. Unfortunately, we werent quick enough,
they radioed for reinforcements.
First came the Mi17, swooping thru the air to drop it's cargo;
Russian paras. I was busy watching for the paras to notice an
approaching BMP, so I was abit puzzled when I heard Hunter asking;
"Run?".
Run we did, back towards our camp, dealing with another patrol
on the way. Hunter grabbed an rocketlauncher and we returned
back to where we encountered the BMP.
*SWOOOSH* Hunter's first rocket hit the ground, dozen or so meters
from us. I provided cover and managed to pick off one of the
Spetznaz' the BMP was patrolling with. Hunter's second rocket found
it's target spot on and the threat was eliminated. With a big bang
I might add.
After making another trip back to the camp to pick-up weapons
for Hunter (He cursed the rifle he had and took his trusty M40),
I glanced at my Mickey Mouse clock, "45 minutes and we havent
gotten more than 500 meters from our camp?!"
My pondering was interrupted by a burst of AK fire. I swinged
around and saw Hunter laying in the ground, wounded. Right infront
of me, Spetznaz was hastily reloading his AK, I cut the bastard
in two by firing my rifle at his general direction. Some bandages
and abit of morphine and Hunter was back on his feet.
Picking off random patrols, we made our way towards a ruined
village to the west. It was in the outskirts of the village
where Hunter met his greatest nemesis to date; one extremely
stubborn UAZ driver. Clip after clip he put lead to the UAZ,
but it refused to die, it did however drive away like crazy on
the first sight of Hunter.
Hunter, not wanting to give up, moved east of the village to lay
in ambush in case the UAZ comes back, I checked the village and
bagged me two Russians trying to keep warm around a fire they had
lit up. Hunter gave up on the ambush business when I spotted three
paratroopers to the north of the village. Hunter let off some
steam on the poor bastards, and lead... lots of lead.
It was maybe an hour into the mission when Hunter wanted to have
a lunchbreak, I got out my MRE's, but no, not Hunter. Instead he BBQ'd
one of the Russian medics we had killed earlier...
After the well earned break and with our bellies full, we
continued to move towards our target. Some 100 meters from the village
we came upon a gate to the target area, guarded with 2 baddies.
Just as we got rid of them, whoelse, than the damned UAZ
drove right past us. A hail of bullets, but no, it didnt stop, it
turned around and drove past us again. More lead to it and it
went off the road. Giving rat's arse about anything else, Hunter
rushed to the UAZ and over the tremendous machinegun fire, I could
hear Hunter cursing franticly at the driver. Hunter 1 - UAZ 0.
After yet another interruption, we returned to our mission.
Hunter must of had magnet in his pants as he got shot again near
the gate by one of the guards. Nothing some morphine couldnt fix
fortunately.
Past the gate, we spotted enemy camp with tanks, but
we decided to ignore them and head for the general, who's house
was clearly visible already.
We circled around the camp from south and made a run for it. Hunter
being the well mannered guy he is, he didnt want the carpet to
get dirty so he shot the general thru the window.
Now, we had to get out, which wasnt helped by the tanks now starting
up their engines. I jumped to the driver's seat of the general's car (baaaad mistake) and stepped on it. I tried to use the road and drive
right bast the enemy camp, but had to go off-road when we started
to get shot at. Being too busy with looking over my shoulder for
the tanks, I didnt notice the ridge ahead. I flipped the car...
Now stranded without a car and tanks looking for us, we came up
with a masterplan; I go hide like a sissy near the gate, while Hunter
goes to get us a new car that we had left near the enemy camp...
and it worked.
Unfortunately, luck wasnt smiling at us in this matter either. Near the
ruined village, we got surrounded by enemies who started shooting at
us from left and right. Miraculously, we only lost our car in the
following firefight. With the tanks' engines clearly audible, closing
in on us, we ran like hell down the coast to our extraction point and got
out of the bloody island.
After 2 hours and 14 minutes the mission was completed.
