On the USS Darter SS-576 our obs scope Type 8 was about 3 ft shorter then the attack scope Type 1 the Type 1 was the same as the WW II scope. The same was true on USS Drum SSN 677 and USS Los Angeles SSN 688 but the obs scope was a Type 18D/E and the attack scope was a Type 1F.
