I got my first Type S when I sneaked (or is it 'snuck') into Lerwick in early 1940. It was real bad weather with vis down to 400m and pouring down. She was sitting there beside an Auxiliary cruiser so the two overlapped from my viewpoint. Set 2 TII's on salvo with a 4 degree spread an let em go. By the time they hit I couldn't see as I was already making my way out but I saw a lot of flame accompanied by two she's going down messages pretty much instantly. I was quite happy to have sunk a sub.
My second encounter was leaving Lorient early 1941 and cruising on the surface as I left land behind. Got a submarine spotted and didn't think much of it this close to German territory so kept TC up and then I heard shells whizzing past the boat, got on deck to see a rather audacious Type S weaving towards me, guns blazing. I fired off a contact report and dived and swung in to get her perpendicular to fire a torp. I got one off but she was going at around 9/10 knots and zig zagging hard. I got a hit but right at the rearmost section so I waited and watched her weave away hoping for a slow sink but she didn't even slow down. I was about to give chase when the Luftwaffe turn up in HE-111's and start pounding it so I let it be and resumed my mission. I don't know if she ever went down, I guess I failed my responsibilities there, but as the Luftwaffe had her sighted I doubt she got far.

It only took one T1 eel to convince that boat not to float.
