Yes, that makes sense. Your initial post didn't make it clear enough (to me anyway) this happend at subsequent measurements. Your procedure seemed correct at first sight. The horizontal size you measure in the scope is also dependent on distance. (or else it would look very stretched-out when it is right in front of you) So you need to do the range thing again if a significant time has past since your last AOB measurement. "significant" depending on the closure rate of the target to you. The higher the rate the more quickly the last range-setting becomes old.
