Brand new submarine simmer, I wanted to try out SH4 because it looked interesting. After reading about all the great things TM does for SH4 I would like to start playing with that modset enabled vs. just running stock.

My copy of SH4 (+ Uboat missions) is from Steam. Being brand new to the game it's a stock clean 1.5 install.

I downloaded and unzipped the TMO 1.7 file from the subsim library. Installed the GME and imported the mod. Activated it and the 4/17 hotfix (in that order) and everything seemed okay.

But when I launch SH4 it does not load, and crashes to the desktop with an error in Simdata.dll. The loading bar gets about 3/4 the way across then it crashes, can't even get to the main menu. I deactivated the hotfix and still no go. If I deactivate TMO then the sim launches okay, so apparently the install is okay? But trying to launch with the TMO installed always results in a crash.

I was under the impression that the most recent TMO did not need that Uboat fix because TMO was updated somehow to work with the Uboat addon without needing a patch.

I did a search but as you might understand there are many TMO threads and many are very long and thus I searched for a while but was not able to find anything conclusive. Thus I thought I might post and ask for help.
