Hmmm... from the looks of this preview we might just get to play surface ships after all. And that's good. But the description of the campaign side of things has me puzzled and perhaps a bit worried. I pray we don't get saddled with a pseudo dynamic campaign consisting of canned missions with hard wired objectives. If I get assigned to a grid and I know damned well that there's no substantial target activity in said grid I want to be able to go to another grid at my discretion without a penalty of minus 5 points to my "captain's mana" or whatever.

So sinking escorts will be a requirement in 'some' missions?

All these early previews are nice and all but the vaguely described features are getting annoying. Maybe we'll have to wait till an actual simmer does a preview instead of the Fallout3 fans.

Either way this whole "now with RPG elements!" thing gives me pause.
