That's basically what it is...Your given a mission to start. If you hit status without completing it...it obvious tells you to complete it. So if you do and send status it usually will send you somewhere else. Sometimes you're given a mission that's two parts...get to a zone then you must sink a ship, others you can just patrol for the amount of time and missions complete.

Yes, you have to radio in to get more missions. Sometimes it will tell you to just patrol an area that you want, return to base, ect. Your the Captain, you make decisions based on your ammo, damage, ect.

You do get points for missions, so the more you do the better. I prefer to do one or two missions, but if a big battle is getting ready to take place, I'll go out on my own. I prefer chasing historical battles than doing patrols.

Also know if you hit status or report a convoy, they can vector in on you or it may alert ships. Not something you want to do when ships are in sight too often. As far as I know you get no points for reporting a convoy, so it's a waste of time.
