Yeah, I always shut my engines off while using the hydrophone, and the neutral buoyancy created by my well-kept ballast tanks keep me hovering at a set depth.

The only times I've found myself sinking without noticing it are instances where I've sustained severe hull damage and, consequently, heavy flooding in compartments. By then it's usually too late to correct the problem, of course.
