I don't know Subcommander, I assume you mean SH3 Commander. In SH3 Commander (Options >> Gameplay Settings) you can enable at "Model Effects" malfunctions and sabotage.
But be aware, sometimes your boat cannot keep depth or compressed air could be a problem too!
