Guys, I am getting ready to install this game again to encourage my little 4 man LAN/COMP group to play a bit. What mods would you suggest right off the bat?

And a couple questions please:

As I remember, this has Co-OP MP. Is that still the case? Is the MP code stable?
Can a few guys sit down and play a mission in an hour or so? Or Less?
I dug out the printout of the manual I had from a few years back. I now remember how daunting it looked and why I never played the game. Is it possible to start playing on a beginner level and then turn up the difficulty? Or is this game just plain meant for a 2" thick manual.
