I found the default resolution settings too high for my computer ( was top-of-the line in 2005, a bit out of date perhaps nowadays
). The solution is to open and edit "d3d9.cfg" to your liking.
What was the resolution of the stock game ? If i myself run it 1024 x 768 and if it was just that....
