i would agree with Herring here.

Some unions are essential to the protection of the rights and interests of workers - without regards to which particular profession a worker should happen to select as his method of employment and wage earning.

I have worked for a rather overly-bureaucratic and tyrannical large corporation before.

the union was frequently a workers largest ally for protection against a fear and intimidation based management system.
