I've been thinking about what you've said about compressed air. I've noticed that sometimes when you surface you spend a bit of air (which is realistic I suppose), and sometimes you don't. This led me to a conclusion that the instrument does not show the whole amount of air, i.e. that there is more than it is shown.
So, when the air supply is full, the scale won't show when it drops, until it drops enough to reach the range of the instrument. I hope this make any sense

I don't have malfunctions turned on in commander.
