So i war reading the pdf and, in particular, the last paragraphs of the chapter, "Uboat Crews". There, the author gives an example of disobedience on behalf of a Uboat Commander in order to describe the fact that, despite certain Uboat commanders the vast majority of commanders, officers and sailors who served in the Ubootwaffe weren't loyal to the Nazi regime. Here is this small but real - according to the author - incident:
U-564 was entering the port guided by its commander. As the Uboat approached the quayside where various dignitaries/officers were present to celebrate the Uboat's return, its commander KptLeutn. Suhren called out:
- Are the Nazi's still in power?
When someone replied "Yes", Suhren ordered, "Full Astern".
