But his background and his 'friends' urge him otherwise.

agreed.
not to sound racist - GOD FORBID IM A WHITE GUY HERE but...
honestly its hard for me to understand why to this day black folks still cry "racism" every time things are not going smoothly for them.
it has become an excuse for them - a card they can play which draws automatic sympathy.
news flash folks... blacks and whites are equally capable of racism; sucks but its a fact.
racism will probably never be snuffed out.
however - i think - for the most part - most white people and most black people dont give a damn about race.
but each side has this fringe that draws a wedge between the rest of us.
you have to see past that.
i have read with interest every bit of information i can about this case.
on one hand... the professor could have avoided the whole situation by just cooperating with the officer and this whole mess would have been resolved without incident in about 180 seconds.
on the other hand... once the cop determined it was the guy's house he could have just as easily left the scene.
personally i think both parties are to blame.
i dont think anyone was racially profiled.
i would expect the officer to verify my ID if i were in my house and there had been such a burglary called in on my home.
I WOULD EXPECT IT!
my father had a friend of the family house sitting for him about a month ago... the whole place is crawling with security cameras. (they showed me this video)
this lady accidentally set off the burglar alarm and a BLACK sheriff responded, entered the residence and located this 50+ year old WHITE lady and pulled his gun on her.
once the situation was explained it was all good... but you didnt hear about it in the news!!!!

its because she didnt run out and cry to al sharpton about being white!
cry me a river folks.
the officer was doing his due diligence to protect the man's property - you would think the dumb ass would appreciate it.
