Coming to Japan for at least a year, I was limited to 20 kilos luggage weight. I had 24.5 kilos and the airline wanted to charge me extra.
I weigh 70 kg max (sopping wet after a big meal). The fat slob who shlepped his way up to the counter behind me clocked in at at least 140 kg, and he was allowed a carry on bag, a laptop and 20 kilos of baggage.
"So, you don't weigh people, right? Just bags?" (no gartuitous "my wife" jokes here please)
"Of course not sir, that would be discriminatory"
"Give me five minutes"
Layering on the clothes, I stumbled back into the queue looking like a beach ball with arms, all pockets stuffed with socks, tubes of Vegemite and Tim Tams.
"How's the weight now?"
"You're well under now sir-19.8 kg"
The stop over in Singapore was not pleasant, but I made it!
I learned my lesson. Now my "laptop" case is filled with licorice, tim tams tubes of vegemite and socks.
