Right, because nobody gives a crap about the Kurds. They're subhuman and deserve genocide. Same goes for people we have intervened on behalf of in Africa. And don't even get me started on Israel, the Jews seem to prone to being victims of ethnic violence, it's a lost cause. It's their own fault, right?
That's not to say that I support U.S. Wars in general. I would have been more than happy to turn a deaf ear to the pleas of the Western allies in ww1 and ww2. I think we actually have a tendency to cause more harm than we prevent in many cases. But I would like to see at least a little appreciation for the sacrifices U.S. soldiers have made around the globe in the name of freedom for others.
That said, GR is right about our welfare system. Even after reform, it sucks. Unlike people oppressed at gunpoint around the world, most of our welfare recipients chose their fate when they made poor choices or wouldn't stoop to earning a low wage and starting at the bottom of the ladder like the rest of us. And it isn't as if there is any shortage of generous private entities willing to help them. Many will provide them with jobs and shelter, and some will even build homes for them, provided they are willing to help themselves.
What it all comes down to is that in this nation, most of our "poor" people are willfully stupid, lazy, and/or selfish. There is absolutely no reason why any moderately able-bodied person cannot work hard and save money and improve their lot in life. It only requires the determination to do it.
Many of them are quite comfortable with resting on other people's laurels and demanding some sort of entitlement for no reason other than the fact that they are human beings. They should be thankful that there are so many people selfless enough to devote their time, money, and effort into helping them, despite their foolishness, before they ask the state to steal from the industrious to support their continued failures.
