While I agree that forcing people to vote would be an infringement upon freedom, I do not believe that it would violate any of the principals of democracy.

Think about it: say the people voted to force all citizens to vote. If forcing citizens to vote in the first place is not democratic, and ignoring the vote of the citizens to impose forced voting would not be democratic, we'd be left with an unresolvable paradox.
