I think I know what the reason for your crash is. It is likely in NCL_Southampton.cfg in the data\Sea folder. It contains commands to spawn British search plane Walrus which you probably does not have installed. Just delete the following lines in the NCL_Southampton.cfg file
[AirGroup 1]
StartDate=19350601
EndDate=19480101
Squadron1Class=LBSWalrus
Squadron1No=1
or alternatively install my Float Planes mod which includes LBSWalrus.

Yes, I just noticed that while wandering aimlessly through the cfg file. I hadn't thought much of it, but I bet that's what it is.
If it works I'd like to include it at as a recommends for ImprovedConvoys, since I have so many CLs in early war convoys. I'll need a version that works out-of-the-box to point people to, first, though.
