Lucas is no God. But the persistent belief that he's necessarily some kind of "hack" and that Star Wars was made by the production crew is just untrue. Remember it was Lucas who left A New Hope to be completely written by his staff and the resulting movie was so terrible he had to completely re-write in a few weeks. This became the wonderous Star Wars we know. What annoys me is that the fans seem to think Lucas shouldn't own his own series. Even though he's proven that he *is* a talented writer.
I think Lucas's problem is that he doesn't seem to listen to his editors. The worst scenes in the prequels are usually the ones that simply serve no relevance to the plot. Thus what the prequels needed was the
removal of scenes. Not the addition of pointless referances only EU fans would understand.

My thoughts exactly. The problem nobody bothers with that. It's always "dur jedi this and that" or "mandolorian this and that".
