Try deleting the movies anyway, not just deactivating them.
I had to do this to get the game to load on my XP computer.
Also, you might try the Vista (32 or 64 bit) codex pack; I suspect you are missing a needed video codex.
The only thing that is certain is that microsoft won't help.
