With that said - if you can, let a trusted neighbor know your going to be up and keeping watch for a few nights (so your not picked up as the arsonist), make sure your armed, and solve the problem yourself. Technically - the person is trying to burn down your home, thus your within your rights to cap them in self defence. At least, you would in in the US, don't know about Canadian law though.

Handy hint on Canadian law (as an RCMP Officer informed me after I caught someone breaking into my car in my driveway). You are not allowed to strike the person (so shooting is also out), you are allowed to restrain them and should they come to harm fighting restraint that is not your fault. In layman's terms that means you cannot punch him, but if while you are holding him he contacts the ground or a wall very hard, that is ok. Remember, you can't hit him, but you can make him hit things
